The City of Fort Worth (City) participates with other jurisdictions in the North Central Texas Council of Governments to develop and implement capabilities and processes to increase regional and individual community readiness in alignment with federal and state homeland security strategies. The Fiscal Year 2009 Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) marks the fifth year the City has been awarded funds under the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant. In 2009, 62 high risk communities/regions across the nation were awarded UASI grants by the DHS. Funding under the program will be used by the Fire Department, Police Department and other City departments to increase the community's capacity to prepare for, prevent and respond to terrorism incidents.
