HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 15876Ordinance No / '" AN ORDINANCE INCREASING ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND APPROPRIATIONS IN THE GRANTS FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $29,350 00 SUBJECT TO RECEIPT OF THE GRANT FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS, DIVISION OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING HAZARDOUS MATERIAL AWARENESS PROGRAMS FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS SECTION 1 That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for Fiscal Year 2003 2004 and in the Budget of the City Manager there shall also be increased estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Fund in the amount of $29,350.00 subject to receipt of the grant from the State of Texas, Division of Emergency Management, for the purpose of funding hazardous material awareness programs for the Fire Department. SECTION 2 That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid inoperative or void for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 15636 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed SECTION 4 This ordinance shall take effect upon adoption APPROVED AS TO FORM AND LEGALITY l~ P Assistant ty Attorney ADOPTED AND EFFECTIVE. ~,- I ~~ ~~-~' City of Fort Worth, Texas Mayor and Council Communication COUNCIL ACTION Approved on 2/17/2004 Ordinance No 15876 DATE Tuesday February 17 2004 LOG NAME 36HMEP REFERENCE NO *G-14261 SUBJECT Approval of Grant Application to the State of Texas Division of Emergency Management for the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Grant RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council 1 Approve the submission of a grant application by the City Manager on November 1 2003 applying for a one-year grant for $29 350 from the State of Texas Division of Emergency Management; and 2. Authorize the City Manager subject to grant receipt, to enter into an agreement with the State of Texas Division of Emergency Management; and 3 Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Fund by $29 350 subject to receipt of the funds, and 4 Approve the transfer of $5 870 as required for the 20°!o match from the General Fund to the Grants Fund DISCUSSION The U S Department of Transportation through the State of Texas Division of Emergency Management, is providing funding for local jurisdictions to enhance hazardous materials preparedness programs. The Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) grant will help better educate the citizens as well as better prepare the first responders in the City of Fort Worth This will be achieved through the distribution of informational Literature at various schools institutions, and events, as well as updating hazardous material databases so that first responders will be aware of possible hazards when responding to an incident. The award of this grant would allow the Fire Department, Emergency Management Division to expand and enhance its current hazardous material awareness programs.
