SUBJECT APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE AND ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FROM FORT
WORTH LOCAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION FOR RESTORATION OF GUINN
SCHOOL AND ADOPTION OF RELATED GRANT AGREEMENT
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council
1 Authorize the City Manager to execute a grant agreement accepting the amount of $500 000 from
the Fort Worth Local Development Corporation (LDC) for the restoration of the gym and workshop
area at the former Guinn School campus and
2 Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the
Grants Fund by $500 000 from available funds
DISCUSSION
The City is in the process of restoring the gym and workshop area at the former Guinn School campus
in order to house the Fort Worth MedTech Center (the Center) The Center will provide specialized and
industry-specific business assistance to medical and high technology start-up companies The Center
is part of an initiative to build the City's economic diversity
On January 11 2000 (M&C G-12785) the City Council authorized the City Manager to accept a $1 3
million grant from the U S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the purpose of
restoring the gym and workshop area at the former Guinn School campus. The HUD grant was later
reduced to $1.2 million in the federal appropriations process. The grant of $500 000 from the LDC will
complement the HUD grant. It is expected that the HUD grant and LDC grant together will be sufficient
to fund this restoration project.
FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION
The Finance Director certifies that upon approval of the above recommendation No 1 receipt of the
grant, and adoption of the attached appropriation ordinance funds will be available in the current
operating budget, as appropriated of the Grants Fund
