AN ORDINANCE INCREASING ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND APPROPRIATIONS
IN THE GRANTS FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $9,250 FROM AVAILABLE FUNDS
FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING A GRANT FROM THE i7.S. GEOLOGICAL
SURVEY, DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR - FOR THE CREATION OF
GEOGRAPHIC DATA DOCUMENTATION, MAKING THIS ORDINANCE
CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH,
TEXAS.
SECTION 1
That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for Fiscal Year 2001-02 and in the
Budget of the City Manager, there shall also be increased estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants
Fund in the amount of $9,250 from available funds for the purpose of funding a grant from the U.S.
Geological Survey, Department of Interior -for the creation of Geographic Data Documentation.
SECTION 2.
That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void
for any reason by a court of competent junsdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall m no way impair
the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall
be and remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 3
That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 14745 and all other ordinances and appropriations
amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with
such other ordinances and appropnahons, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior
ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed.
SECTION 4
This ordinance shall take effect upon adoption.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council
1 Authorize the City Manager to apply for and accept, if awarded, a $6,000 grant from the U S
Geological Survey, Department of the Interior, to assist in the creation of geographic data
documentation known as "Metadata", and
2. Approve the use of $3,250 in personnel services from the Information Technology Solutions
Department as an in-kind contribution for this grant; and
' 3 Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the
Grants Fund up to $9,250 subject to receipt of the grant.
DISCUSSION
Currently, the City of Fort Worth develops and maintains geographic data in a variety of formats in
many different locations The City is in the process of moving to a citywide Geographic Information
System (CIS) that will facilitate data sharing and data communication between all City departments
An important component of geographic data sharing is data documentation known as "Metadata"
The grant offered by the U S Geological Survey, Department of the Interior, is intended to "improve the
ability and efficiency of organizations to discover, share, maintain and utilize geospatial data in carrying
out their business" The grant funds will be used to develop curriculum and train 28 City employees for
the creation of the geographic data documentation or "Metadata"
FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION
The Finance Director certifies that upon approval of the above recommendations, and adoption of the
attached appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in the current operating budget, as
appropriated, of the Grants Fund
