AN ORDINANCE INCREASING ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND APPROPRIATIONS
IN THE SPECIAL TRUST FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $150,000 FROM
AVAILABLE FUNDS, FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING A WATER
DEMONSTRATION GARDEN, MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF
PRIOR ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH,
TEXAS.
SECTION 1
That in addition to those amounts allocated to the vanous City departments for Fiscal Year 2001-02 in the
Budget of the City Manager, there shall also be increased estimated receipts and appropriations in the Special
Trust Fund in the amount of $150,000 from available funds for the purpose of funding a Water
Demonstration Garden.
SECTION 2.
That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void
for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall. in no way impair.
the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall
be and remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 3
That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 14745 and all other ordinances and appropriations
amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with
such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior
ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed.
SECTION 4
This ordinance shall take effect upon adoption.

REGIONAL WATER DISTRICT ACCEPTING A DONATION TO CONSTRUCT A
WATER DEMONSTRATION GARDEN TO PROMOTE EFFICIENT WATER USE AT
THE FORT WORTH BOTANIC GARDENS
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council
Authorize the City Manager to enter into an interlocal agreement with Tarrant Regional Water
District to accept a donation, in the amount of $50,000, for construction of a Water Demonstration
Garden to promote efficient water use at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens, and
2 Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the
Water and Sewer Fund by $50,000 from available funds, and
3 Authorize the transfer of $150,000 from the Water and Sewer Fund to the Special Trust Fund, and
4 Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the
Special Trust Fund by $150,000 for the construction of a Water Demonstration Garden
DISCUSSION
This interlocal agreement will allow the Tarrant Regional Water District to donate $50,000 toward the
construction of a proposed Water Demonstration Garden at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens. The
purpose of the Water Demonstration Garden is to demonstrate water-efficient irrigation practices and
that water saving landscapes can be cool, green and lush Demonstrating wise and efficient use of
existing water resources is critical toward meeting water needs and in the development of new supplies
of water resources
The Texas Cooperative Extension Service estimates that in urban areas, about 25% of the water supply
is used to water landscapes and gardens and that as much as 60% of the average household's
summer water usage may be for landscape maintenance
Beginning in FY2003-2004, the Water Department will enter into an ongoing maintenance agreement
with the Parks and Community Services Department for an approximate cost of $30,000 a year
