Ordinance No. AN ORDINANCE INCREASING THE ESTIMATED RECEII'TS AND APPROPRIATIONS IN THE GRANTS FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $40,000 SUBJECT TO THE RECEIPT OF THE GRANT FROM THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH BUREAU OF REGIONAL/LOCAL HEALTH OPERATIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS REGARDING CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE, MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES AND REPEALING ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS SECTION 1 That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for the Fiscal Year 2000-01 and in the Budget of the City Manager, there shall also be increased estunated receipts and appropnahons in the Grants Fund in the amount of $40,000 subject to the receipt of the grant from the Texas Department of Health Bureau of RegionaULocal Health Operations for the purpose of funding educational programs regarding cardiovascular disease. SECTION 2. That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3 That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 14286 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 4 This ordinance shall take effect upon adoption. APPROVED AS TO FORM AND LEGALITY Assistant City Attorney ADOPTED AND EFFECTIVE. ~~ `~'~~ City of Fort Worth, Texas ~11~A~or And C,aunc~l Cai»s»un~cAt~an DATE REFERENCE NUMBER LOG NAME PAGE 5/8/01 **C-18584 50WALKING 1 of 2 SUBJECT APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE AND CONTRACT WITH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH BUREAU OF REGIONAL/LOCAL HEALTH OPERATIONS, PREVENTIVE HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES BLOCK GRANT RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council 1 Authorize the City Manager to submit a grant application and, if offered, execute one grant contract with the Texas Department of Health's Bureau of Regional/Local Health Operations (BRLHO) for $40,000, and 2 Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing appropriations and estimated receipts by $40,000 in the Grants Fund, and 3 Apply an indirect cost rate of 10%, which represents the rate that the Texas Department of Health agrees to DISCUSSION The Texas Department of Health (TDH) provides grant funds to local health departments across the state to provide essential public health services These funds are directed at reducing the incidence of cardiovascular disease in the community Public Health staff will address these essential health functions, as defined by TDH • Inform, educate and empower people about health status, and • Mobilize community partnerships to identify and solve health problems.
