SUBJECT ADOPT AMENDMENTS TO CHAPTER 13 OF THE CITY CODE FOR THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT'S TECHNICAL RESCUE TEAM "ASSIGNMENT PAY"
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached amendments to Chapter 13, Sections 13-
27, "Fire Prevention and Protection", of the City Code, which provides assignment pay to firefighters
assigned to specialized duties, authorizing firefighters trained and assigned to the Fire Department's
Technical Rescue Team to receive assignment pay
DISCUSSION
Section 143 02 of the Texas Local Government Code provides that the City Council may authorize
"Assignment Pay" for firefighters performing specialized functions in the department. On January 16,
1996, the City Council adopted Ordinance No 12357 which created Section 13-27 of the City Code,
specifying such pay for certain firefighters in the Fort Worth Fire Department.
Funds were included in the Fire Department's Fiscal Year 2001-2002 adopted budget to provide
assignment pay to firefighters trained in and assigned to technical rescue The Technical Rescue
Team responds to emergency incidents such as trench collapse, confined space accidents, high and
low angle rescue, structural collapse, and vehicle accidents involving multiple persons trapped in a
vehicle or machinery entrapment.
Adoption of the ordinance will add the Technical Rescue Team assignments to those presently eligible
to receive assignment pay The estimated cost of providing this additional benefit to eligible Fire
Department staff is $99,600 in Fiscal Year 2001-2002.
