HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 14551,`, Ordinance No AN ORDINANCE INCREASING THE ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND APPROPRIATIONS IN THE GRANTS FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000,000 SUBJECT TO THE RECEIPT OF THE GRANT FROM THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE MONTGOMERY PARK BUSINESS CENTER, MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMLJI.ATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES AND REPEALING ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS. SECTION 1 That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for the Fiscal Year 2000-01 and in the. Budget of the City Manager, there shall also be mcreased estimated receipts in the Grants Fund in the amount of $1,000,000 subject to the receipt of the grant from the Econormc Development Administration for the purpose of funding infrastructure in the Montgomery Business Center SECTION 2. That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3 That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No 14286 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except m those instances where the provisions of this ordmance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed. SECTION 4 This ordinance shall take effect and be m full force after the date of its passage, and rt is so ordained. Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing the estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Fund by $1,000,000 DISCUSSION On March 28, 2000, a tornado struck the Linwood neighborhood/Montgomery Ward area, the West 7th Street corridor, and Fort Worth's central businesses, as well as other areas in Tarrant County, resulting in property losses of over $400 million On April 7, 2000, President Clinton declared tornado stricken Tarrant County a federal disaster area The Montgomery Park Business Center (site of the Montgomery Ward building) and many other buildings in that area were badly damaged by the tornado In order to make this site more attractive for redevelopment, an application to the EDA is proposed. for submission in order to access federal funds allocated by Congress for the purpose of addressing needs in federally declared disaster areas.
