SUBJECT APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE FROM LAKE WORTH TRUST FUND TO WATER AND
SEWER MAIN EXTENSION, REPLACEMENT 98A, CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION
OF LAKE WORTH WATER MAIN
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council
Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations by
$60,000 in the Lake Worth Trust Fund from available funds for installation of a water main to City-
owned property at Lake Worth, and
2. Authorize the transfer of $60,000 from the Lake Worth Trust Fund to the Water Capital Project
Fund, and
3 Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations by
$60,000 in the Water Capital Project Fund from available funds
DISCUSSION
As a result of a very protracted and complicated bankruptcy/foreclosure and in accordance with the
terms of the lease, in July, 1999, the City of Fort Worth assumed ownership of the improvements
located on Lot 41, Block 27, Lake Worth Leases, known as "The Castle" Due to the rapidly
deteriorating condition of the structures on this property, staff has recommended that the property be
aggressively marketed and sold by sealed bid sale
Staff has also recommended that the existing 16-inch water line on Heron Drive be extended to provide
water service to the property By providing water service to the immediate vicinity of the property, the
recommended sale will be consistent with the adopted City Council Policy of November 14, 1995 (M&C
G-11300)
The City of Fort Worth has provided water service to Heron Drive adjacent to the northeast corner of
the site The existing water main can be extended west along Heron Drive approximately 750 feet to
serve the Lake Worth Castle property Sanitary sewer service is not available at or near the Lake
Worth Castle site at the present time, however, a lift station located approximately 700 feet to the east
from the Castle tract is technically feasible to serve the Castle tract in the near future
A 16-inch water main has been designed to provide water service to the Lake Worth Castle property
The cost of the construction of this water main is estimated to be $60,000 Construction will be
performed by utilizing the annual service contract, Water and Sewer Main Extension, Replacement,
Relocation 98A, "MWSERR98A" Contract.
Upon completion of the water main installation, the property will be eligible for a sealed bid sale
