DISCUSSION On December 8, 1998, the City Council approved M&C G-12412, authorizing the application for and acceptance of a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant from the Texas Historical Commission in the amount of $6,000 to fund the preparation of a National Register of Historic Places nomination for the 1300 and 1400 blocks of North Main Street, which make up the "Marine Commercial Historic District." In 1999, the City was awarded the CLG grant for this project in the amount of $3,600 As CLG grants require a 60/40 funding split, the City's 40% cash match obligation totals $2,400 The grant will be used to hire a professionally qualified historic preservation consultant to conduct in- depth historical research and prepare a National Register nomination for the Marine Commercial Historical District. The project will result in the nomination of the Marine Commercial Historic District to the National Register The National Register listing ties in with one of the goals adopted by the City's Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission to proactively designate and recognize the City's historic resources The District's listing in the National Register will not subject it to restrictions because owners of properties listed in the National Register are not subject to restrictions unless federal funds are used Furthermore, the District's listing will support the development of the Mercado project by increasing promotional opportunities, providing eligibility for financial incentives and making available technical assistance from the Texas Historical Commission staff M'Ayor City of Fort Worth, Texas And Council CommunicAtian DATE 9/7/99 REFERENCE NUMBER **G-12653 LOG NAME 22MARINE PAGE 2 of 2 SUBJECT AUTHORIZE TRANSFER OF GRANT FUNDS AND ADOPTION OF APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE FOR THE MARINE COMMERCIAL HISTORIC DISTRICT FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION The Finance Director certifies that upon approval of the above recommendation and receipt of the grant, funds will be available in the current operating budget, as appropriated, of the Grants Fund RGj Submitted for City Manager's FUND ACCOUNT CENTER AMOUNT CITY SECRETARY Office by: (to) 1 &2) GR76 472001 022408606000 $2,400.00 ~ Ramon Guajardo 6140 2) GR76 488280 022408606000 $3,600.00 ~ Originating Department Head: 2) GR76 539120 022408606010 $6,000.00 ~~~ ~4~ Fernando Costa 8042 (from) S~~ '~ 1 1) GG01 538070 0221000 $2,400.00 Additional Information Contact: ~w., ~~> ~~ $ecrettiry of 4he Carolyn Tames 8012 ~y at Fort evoreh,'I'exas .. ~ U~c~llt~~~c,a~ ~`+~~~~~~
