ADJUSTMENTS TO CORRESPOND WITH CHANGES TO THE MINIMUM BUILDING

N
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached ordinance amendments to the Building
Code, Electrical Code, Plumbing Code and Mechanical Code.
DISCUSSION
1n order to •have the. referenced codes correspond with the provisions of the Minimum Building
Standards Code, it is necessary that the attached amendments be approved As written, the
amendments will provide for the following•
1 Eliminate current conflicts between the Building, Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing Codes and
the Minimum Building Standards Code. Failure to eliminate such conflicts could result in conflicting
actions taken and answers provided by the different departments involved, and
2. Allow both the Development and City Services Departments to enforce the same provisions that
deal with construction provisions on existing buildings and structures; and
3 Recognize the Development Department as the single code interpretation authority for those code
items that relate.to Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing items, while accepting the Code
Compliance Division as the single interpretation authority for the remainder of the Minimum Building
Standards Code.
4 Allow a variance or appear proce~±ure for those caries items by providing access to the various
Boards created in the Building, 'Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.
FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION
The Finance Director certifies that this action will have no material effect on City funds.
