AN ORDINANCE DECLARING ELECTED TO
OFFICE THE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES FOR
THE OFFICE OF MAYOR AND FOR THE OFFICE
OF CITY COUNCILMEMBER FOR CITY COUNCIL
DISTRICT NOS 3, 7 AND 8, PROVIDING THAT
THE ELECTIONS ORDERED FOR MAY 1, 1999,
FOR SAID OFFICES SHALL NOT BE HELD;
PROVIDING FOR THE POSTING OF COPIES OF
THIS ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR THE
ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION;
AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on February 23, 1999, the Fort Worth City Council adopted
City Ordinance No 13715, calling for and ordering elections to be held on May 1,
1999, at which elections all qualified voters may vote for the purpose of electing a
Mayor at large and eight (8) City Councilmembers from their respective districts,
and
WHEREAS, the deadline of March 17, 1999, for filing an application for a
place on the ballot for the respective elections has expired, and
WHEREAS, the deadline of March 22, 1999, for filing a declaration of
write-in candidacy for said elections has expired, and
WHEREAS, the Fort Worth City Council, pursuant to Section 2 052 of the
Texas Election Code, has received from the City Secretary a "Certification of
Unopposed Candidacy" certifying that following the expiration of said deadlines,
only one (1) person has filed as a candidate for election to the office of Mayor,
and only one (1) person has filed as a candidate in each of the elections for City
Council District Nos 3, 7 and 8,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS:
SECTION 1
That pursuant to Section 2 053 of the Texas Election Code
a Kenneth Barr, being an unopposed candidate for election
to the office of Mayor, is hereby declared elected to that
office,
b Chuck Silcox, being an unopposed candidate for election
to the office of City Councilmember for District No 3, is
hereby declared elected to that office,
c Jeff Wentworth, being an unopposed candidate for election
to the office of City Councilmember for District No 7, is
hereby declared elected to that office, and
d Ralph McCloud, being an unopposed candidate for election
to the office of City Councilmember for District No 8, is
hereby declared elected to that office
SECTION 2
That the elections ordered for May 1, 1999, for the office of Mayor and for
the offices of City Councilmember for City Council District Nos 3, 7 and 8, shall
not be held
SECTION 3
That a copy of this ordinance shall be posted on May 1, 1999, election
day, at each of the polling places which would have been used in the elections
for the offices of Mayor and City Councilmember for City Council District Nos 3,
7 and 8
SECTION 4
That pursuant to Section 2 053 of the Texas Election Code, certificates of
election shall be issued to Kenneth Barr, Chuck Silcox, Jeff Wentworth and
Ralph McCloud in the same manner as provided for a candidate elected at the
election
SECTION 5
That this ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect from
and after the date of its passage, and it is so ordained
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 30th day of March, 1999, at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of Fort Worth, Texas
