AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $89,509 00 TO THE GENERAL FUND, AND DECREASING THE
UNRESERVED, UNDESIGNATED GENERAL FUND BALANCE BY THE SAME AMOUNT FOR THE
PURPOSE OF FUNDING IMPLEMENTATION OF A SIXTH FIItE BATTALION, PROVIDING FOR A
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES AND
REPEALING ALL PRIOR ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS.
SECTION 1
That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for the Fiscal Year 1996-97 and in the Budget of the City
Manager, there shall also be increased appropriations in the General Fund, ui the amount of $89,509 00; thereby decreasmg the
unrestricted, undesignated Fund Balance by the same amount, for the purpose of funding the implementation of a sixth fire battalion.
SECTION 2.
Should any portion, section or part of a secfion of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason by a court of
competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgement shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of
this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 3
That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 12629 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except in
those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which
instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed.
SECTION 4
This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect and after the date of its passage, and it is so ordained.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached supplemental appropriations
ordinance increasing General Fund appropriations by 589,509 and decreasing the unreserved,
undesignated fund balance by the same amount to fund the implementation of a sixth fire
battalion for the Fire Department
DISCUSSION
On July 1, 1997 (M&C G-1 1922), the City Council approved the addition of three fire battalion
chiefs to staff a sixth battalion Because the promotions must be made before the active list
expires, immediate implementation of the sixth battalion is necessary This addition will
require 589,509 for the remainder of FY 1996-97 and is comprised of the following
Salaries and benefits 543,649
Minor equipment 2,345
Station office construction 5,000
Computer 4,000
Radios 5,715
Vehicle 28,800
Total 589,509
All one-time expenditures for implementation of the sixth battalion are covered by this
supplemental appropriation Fufl-year 1997-98 operating costs for the sixth battalion will be
included in the City Manager's proposed budget
FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION
The Director of Fiscal Services certifies that upon adoption of the attached appropriations
ordinance, funds will be available in the current operating and capital budgets, as appropriated,
of the General Fund Upon completion of this recommendation, the unreserved, undesignated
fund balance of the General Fund will be 523,798,489
