SUBJECT ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 19-26 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT
WORTH RELATED TO USE OF THE LIBRARY BY NONRESIDENTS
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council
1 Authorize the City Manager beginning June 1, 1995, to implement the issuance of a Fort
Worth Public Library card to nonresident donors as amended in Chapter 19, "Libraries," and
2 Adopt the attached amended ordinance revising the code of the City of Fort Worth, Section
19-26, "Fees for certain nonresident users," and changing the title of such section to read
"Use of library by nonresidents "
DISCUSSION
The Code of the City of Fort Worth, Texas (1986), Chapter 19, "Libraries" specifies in Section
19-26 the use of the Fort Worth library by nonresidents Section 19-26(c) includes the
definitions of nonresidents
The recommended changes are in the definition of Nonresident Donor allowing nonresident
individuals who donate 5100 00 or more to the Fort Worth Public Library, the Fort Worth Public
Library Foundations or the Friends of the Fort Worth Public Library to receive a library card valid
for one year following receipt of the donation for each 5100 00 donated, .such card may,
however, not exceed more than 5 years at any given time, regardless of the amount donated
Another revision further clarifies existing practices regarding a nonresident student by stating that
the qualified student may only borrow library materials that are related to his/her current
educational pursuits
All other parts of the Ordinance remain the same passed by the Council in 1986
Revenues for Nonresident cards equal 525,000 - 528,000 a year This Ordinance revision is not
anticipated to impact these revenues
