DISCUSSION
The Parks and Community Services Department is requesting approval to apply for and accept,
if awarded, a grant from the 1995 Conservation Assessment Program (CAP) from the Institute
of Museum Services (IMS) Grant applications are being accepted until December 2, 1994 for
the current grant cycle This is anon-competitive grant and funds are awarded on a first-come,
first-serve basis
The grant will provide funds for a general conservation survey The survey will provide an
overview assessment of all the Village's collections, including the historic structures,
environmental conditions, policies and procedures relating to collections care The surveyor(s)
will develop a report which will outline recommendations and priorities for conservation actions
and facilitate development of a long-range plan for care and preservation of Village collections
CAP funds will cover the following costs
1 Assessor's fees including travel and on-site expenses (up to 55,700 00 for two assessors)
2 Administrative fee to the National Institute for Conservation of Cultural Property (5810 00)
If the assessment expenses exceed the allotted amount, the grantee is responsible for paying the
difference Although additional expenses are not projected, if they were incurred it is estimated
that these expenses would not exceed 5300 00 If this occurs, funds in the current operating
budget will be utilized to underwrite these costs Should the CAP grant be awarded, the
conservation assessment would be completed within one year of the award Upon completion
of this assessment, the City will become eligible to apply for additional IMS funding to conduct
further studies and to supplement the Log Cabin Village's operating .funds by as much as fifteen
percent (15%) over a two year period
