During the weekend of May 15-16, 1993, the Department of Environmental Management
sponsored the region's first household hazardous waste collection event. The event was
extremely successful with approximately 1,300 vehicles being processed through the
waste receiving line.
Prior to the event, the Department of Environmental Management solicited support from
numerous local companies to assist in publicizing the event and preparing. public
education materials. Five companies agreed to donate a total of $2,100.00, and an
additional $177.75 was donated by participants during the collection event. In
addition, the Fort Worth Star Telegram contributed two days advertising which allowed
the event to be publicized for four days, and Coca Cola Bottling Co. provided drinks
for volunteers.
These donated funds will be used to partially pay for the printing, copying and
advertising costs associated with the event and the public education campaign. Any
such costs in excess of the donated amount will be paid for from tb eoartm~nt ~f
